Meet Michael Grecco: Photographer, director, producer, and entrepreneur - Shout Out LA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Grecco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, how do you think about risk?
Risk is everything. Anything easy to do, without much risk, brings little to no reward. There is a saying in the business community, if it was easy to do, everyone would be doing it, and everyone would be champions, rich and successful. There is nothing that is worth it that does not have risk to it, including personal things like marriage and having kids.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I have been a photographer for a long time, and have achieved some nice landmarks in that career including best-selling books, awards, and many magazine , among other highlights. Right now, I’m very excited about my new book, Punk, Post-Punk, New Wave, featuring previously unseen photos from the heyday of punk music. I still shoot personally and professionally, but I have taken the creative skill set I have learned and focused it on business projects related to photography, producing, and directing. I do not think artists should be limited in their creative ability, attitude and thinking.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I would start and end with Fia, a restaurant that I am a partner in, located in Santa Monica. We have amazing food and drink there with a two-star Michelin Chef, Chef Brendan. I would then take them to the great contemporary museums in Los Angeles, The Broad, MOCA, and the Geffen Contemporary. The next thing would be to take Pacific Coast Highway to wine country, stopping in Santa Barbara and Carmel. It is the most beautiful drive in the world. While in Napa and Sonoma, an evening at the French Laundry is mandatory. I would then leave the rent a car in wine country and fly to Vegas for one night, staying at the Cosmopolitan. After shopping at The Shops at Crystals, dinner at Carbone, drinks by the pool, and a little blackjack, I would get them back on a plane in Los Angeles so I can get back to work! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, I like surrounding myself with smart people, most are lawyers because of their business acumen. I have to shout out to James Silverberg in Washington, D.C., an attorney I have relied on for his policy and copyright knowledge. Ken Hertz, my business attorney, has a great knowledge of many things, and my wife Elizabeth Grecco Waterman. She and I just complement our skill sets in life and in business.
